You can also buy paper blinds for the windows at Home Depot/Lowes. Then put an old TV in the front most room on a timer so that the screen faces the window with the blinds. That way someone driving by will see the blue haze moving & will think someone is home.

Great tip Shaun. The other thing I’ve seen at HD is the portable keypad Ryobi alarm sirens with a motion detector. I think they’re like $30-40. The only problem with those though is that the intruder will know it’s not hooked up to a system that will alert the police.

Good stuff. We also use a new product called Door Jamb Armor (djarmor.com) that works really well. You can get it at most Lowe’s. We put it on EVERY exterior door. Runs about $125 per door including installation, but it is a good marketing tool to help your tenant or buyer feel safer in renting or buying a home from you.

Good info. I’ve had a few break-ins in my time and $35 is a small price to pay to keep the BGs out.. I’ll give this a try. I didn’t know home improvement stores had this stuff now. Also I use steal gates which most of the ornamental iron companies will sell I think they run about $125/gate. The run a little more but they definitely make a difference.

thanks Shaun. I wish I would have done this two days ago. One of my houses was just broken into on monday. I’m sure the thieves were rather disappointed to find PEX instead of copper. I still had to replace two door jambs though.
